My Favorite Crafting Tools

AI-generated crafter table with varied craft projects

Trying to put together a list of tools for a new hobbyist so I’m sharing this as an ongoing tool page. If you have tools you recommend, contact me so we can add it!

Vinyl Cutter

First and foremost, you have to get your vinyl cutter. Now we all know there’s a few editions of Cricut Explore, Cricut Makers and they have different features. If you’re looking for entry level, basic, I’m going to always hands-down recommend the Cricut Explore Air 2. It’s pretty affordable typically under the $200 mark. If you go used, beware, but you can get them for $100 on FB Marketplace. If you want want a Cricut cutter that will not require an upgrade for a while, I’m saying 2-3 years in most cases, then yes, you have to go Cricut Maker 3.

Vinyl

If you buy vinyl, think about what you want to make because my first recommendation will just be “spring for the rolls”.

Vinyl Holder

You don’t need anything fancy. I prefer a mounted option because I don’t have the storage space otherwise. The mounted option means using my vertical space and keeping my shelves and table surfaces clear. If you cannot mount to the wall, maybe you rent, then you consider a sort of hanging solution that can be hung from the back of your door. No matter which option you like, they run about $20 or less.

Heat Transfer Vinyl

I like a variety of color and if you’re layering or doing multi-colored SVGs then you need to grab a starter kit of 36 sheets. If you do one thing when you first get started doing HTV, make yourself a bold sticky note that reads “remember to mirror!”. Trust me.

Cricut Tools

I am not going to ever tell you go name brand constantly. You’re going to be shocked. I like the name brand Cricut tools. But is it necessary, not always. I have found alternatives for the weeding tool. But I like the scraper because of the sharper edge. If you’re gifting for someone, grab this affordable tools set. It’s normally priced about $10 and will last them.
